Although initially biomedical images provided primarily anatomical information, they now allow to study biological processes and to assess celular and even molecular events in living organisms. Biomedical images have then become an important tool in the diagnosis and management of several diseases, but also in biological and medical research. Image analysis tries to apply image processing and computer vision techniques to obtain the relevant information contained in functional and molecular images.
Topics covered in this special session are positron emission tomography (PET), single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT), functional magnetic resonance (fMRI), ultrasound with contrast agents, and emerging technologies like optical or thermal imaging. Special emphasis will be made in genetic studies involving the analysis of DNA microarray images.
Authors should submit a six page manuscript in double-column format, A4 page size, including authors' names, affiliations, and an abstract. All submissions should adhere to the ISPA author instructions. Papers should be submitted online using the ISPA electronic submission form. Please check the name of the special session under categories selection. Important: The paper should also be sent by e-mail to the special session organizer whose address is indicated below.
